So sorry for your loss of future possibility and confrontation with the finality of death. The death of hope is profound - as significant as the grief for a father you never had. Your storytelling and art are wonderful. Thank you for sharing your reality, including the tough stuff of life. It is there for all of us.

I'm sorry for your loss on so many levels David. Thank you for your honesty and the courage to share your experiences. The totality of loss of not just a parent, but the parent you always needed and the hope that one day they'll wake up enlightened and truly see us, is profound. Grief is hard enough, but when you have a fractured or worse, abusive relationship, the grief is insanely complex. Be kind to you. It's a difficult journey but stay hopeful, it does get better. I speak from experience.

You certainly encapsulated the relationship I had with my dad, although I can't recall him ever speaking directly to me about much of anything. I find it sad to not mourn his loss thirty years ago. And now I"m older than he was when he died. I only mourn the relationship we never had. This was a great look at that relationship...
